Sims 3?..
[This post will not contain any useful information. just some contemplations on the Sims 3. Guess I just needed to vent]
So.. It sure is gonna be a blast to play.. Can’t say I’m a very demanding player, so whichever way they expand the gameplay, I think i’m gonna be happy and apart from questions like ‘what kinda machine would you need to have to handle sth like that??’, I don’t have any worries. Sims game really is what you make of it anyways.
Now when it comes to stuff like moviemaking….
The graphics.. yeah kinda disappointing.. they did improve the look of the buildings and added more polys to the sims, the gradual change of the lighting is really cool too (the sunset is awesome!), but I don’t see too much improvement on the way the objects are rendered.. It’s not ‘jawdropping’ enough and at times it does remind sims 2 alot.
And since Sims 3 is gonna be around for like 5 more years.. so just imagine how lame it’s gonna look to us in 2014!
But.. come to think of it.. if you compare sims 2 with no cc at all and sims 2 with cc you can tell theres a big difference. Hope it’s gonna be the same with the Sims3

| You know what I’ve been wondering about this screenshot? the woman in red dress. Because if you look at it, the whole screen taken with smooth edges off, and her outlines seem really smooth and even if you look at the shading, it looks waaay better than comparing to the other people on the shot. It’s also been a disappointment to see that they still haven’t fired their clothing designer lol and the faces are somewhat clay looking, but whatever. Thank god at least the members of the community have some talent.
So, seeing that there are no more ugly edges on the faces, lets suppose the sim ppl will look whichever way we want. Amen.
The open neighborhood thing is sure gonna be hella fun for the game play, but I really hope you can just freeze everything and still have the full control, cuz I wouldn’t want to find my actors old and married with 5 kids while I was filming on the other set lol.
And lastly, the animation.. not much can be said about it yet.. but I duno, when you watch that ‘lil movie which came with FreeTime… It does seem like some of the animations are gonna be recycled. And that is really creepy. Why EA just can’t change the direction in which it’s going from from dorky and funny to serious and realistic, cuz this is what ppl actually are looking for. (compare success of Helena and NANM and you’ll know I’m right )
And this is my Sims 3 wishlist [aka 'dream on'?]
haha I’m wondering how many of these will actually be in the game.
MUST haves:
- ANIMATION EDITOR!!!
- Scaling and vertical rotation of the objects, ability to raise and lower objects without having to edit the damn meshes outside the game and then wait half an hour till it reloads!
- don’t think that’ll happen, but it would be really cool if you could edit package files without having to quit the game. like you save it, click somewhere in the game ‘reload’ and it just reloads the file you just edited.
- at least 20 preset camera positions. Would be cool to have them show up on the screen and name them too.
- key frame based camera control and easier config
- ability to modify the lighting through USERFRIENDLY interface
- save game ‘lite’ option. tell the game to memorize positions and actions of the Sims. basically the same thing like saving the game, but without having to reload the lot (or w/e that will be in sims3)
- it would be nice to set up multiple cameras and tell the game to record from various angles simultaneously
- ability to change the color of the objects in game (I’m SO glad it’s actually gonna be there)
- at least some basic mesh editor

- decent singing and rocking out animations
- Acoustic guitar and I want to be playing guitar in different poses
(sitting, standing.. (damn i just thought of sth!)

well.. it’s better than nothing? :P
Okay back to the list:
- Public transport
- living in apartments
- gradually growing hair? :P
- there will be weather, right?
- Better romantic interactions
- more violence, diseases, wounds, bone fractures, traumas all that fancy stuff
- Skateboards!
- Cars with the option to drive anywhere on the lot
- Wind!
- it would be cool if there was some sims 2 sims importer. you know just stuff like general features like name and family tree.. I’ve been playing my family for years it would be cool to still have some of the sims in sims3.. but I would definitely survive without it.
And lots more I could go on and on. Anyways, you know, now I have a feeling that the game I was looking forward to all this time was in fact Sims 4… damn.

I think everyone was wanting for graphics so realistic that you needed a super upgrade for a pc that plays sims 2 decently, that these graphics disappoint. Secretly, I’m kinda glad we don’t have super realistic graphics, cuz I don’t think my computer could handle it. But imagine how the sims will look with some new skins or something. Playing with the whole neighborhood also seems interesting, but I’m with you, I don’t want my sims getting old without me knowing. New animations would be awesome, but it looks like we’re getting the same old, same old.
Also, thanks for making the blog firefox friendly, and your animation boxes are a lifesaver for me. :)

Haha, love the comment about Sims4. Very true! I would LOVE to have skateboards in the game! It would be perfect for movies with teenagers in them :p

I see what you mean.. but everyone would have to upgrade sooner or later, besides, you can always set the graphics to low. like when sims 2 came out i had a 32mb graphics card and 256 mb ram lol but i still could play on the lowest settings. anyways yeah, whatever, at least its gonna be better than sims 2 that’s the most optimistic thought i can come up with..
oh and yeah sorry about that. i was such a noob when i was designing this layout. I really want to rebuild the whole site, but maybe some time later..

gosh…i expected sooo much more! i thought it will look better than some sims made out of clay. they’re a little scary…like dolls coming to life O.o” but the whole idea about the neighborhood thing rocks. and maybe its much better than this, maybe while playing the game we’ll see a difference we arent seeing now…it still seems a lot like the sims 2.

if only sims 3 did have those things you listed heh. the sims look looks quite dissapointing, they look like those glass dolls, but i think it’s not all that bad. i guess i could get used to it. then again i shouldnt complain because it probably took a lot of hard work to make. well i will be buying the game though. and it would be so cool if you could take the mesh of the sims 2 sims to sims 3 or something.

I kinda like dorky and funny. It’s what sets the franchise apart, and has since Maxis was born.
But on all other counts, I agree with you.
And about that pic–It looks like the polo lady was just edited in.

I’m really looking forward to the sims 3! Even though some people don’t like the look of the sims faces- I was impressed with how the lighting looks and how the sims appeared alot more natural-looking in their poses (for example one picture on the sims 3 website- where this sim is jogging- seems much more natural than the odd, stiff running in the sims 2)
And- once ‘modthesims3′ (or something) is up- I think the Sims 3 will look heaps better.
And your wishlist is great- I hope they can incorporate at least a few of those things into the new game!

well i’m thinking there will be weather but it’ll come with some ep. it’d be a huge step behind if they decided to leave out the weather.
and that, it was an overlay animation which included only the legs in the seated position and then i told her to play guitar.. i had to tweak decorgal’s box for that. i’m not sure guess it was me who made the animation? or at least it seems like it lol

yeah can’t say they didn’t work hard on it, it does look better its just i bet we all expected more improvements.. if you look at the poll results about half ppl are unhappy with it. that’s quite a bit i’d say. oh and i heard there’ll be no modthesims3, well at least it won’t be run by the same person.

I noticed your sims’ edges are so smooth. Mine is rough. Th “Smooth Edges” option in my game doesn’t like… show up. How did you do that?

Rossette, i guess you’ll need to upgrade your graphics card.. if the option is greyed out, it means your card cannot support it.

JD your videos are probably the best sims videos I’ve ever seen, in every way (quality wise, technical wise, etc.) My mind can’t even fully fathom how your ingenious mind works lol.
you know what would also be cool adding to your ideas of upgraded options for sims3? if the sims could not only come in many different shapes and sizes but also different heights. I find it really funny how my sims, boys and girls, are all the same height whether they are kids, teens or adults!

Dude, ive always been a fan of sims… ive beaten all the sims games for playstasion, and game cube (even though when your done your never really done)… And im always waiting for new ones… my favorite is urbs… but it didnt last long enuf… i beat it in two days… :( But im so freakin excited about sims 3!!! ima so buy it the first day it comes out!

I just started playing the sims 2, Oct. last year, and just discovered the sims 2 movies this past Jan. Anyhoo, I’ve truly become addicted to playing, and I am now interested in making some sims films of my own; So having the sims 3 come to surface puts a smile to my face because even though the sims look like a ‘Disney Pixar’ animation; We will all be learning the sims 3 together. In addition, I do hope that there is wind, as you suggested, and skateboards; That would be so.. sick!:)

actually, im sure you know this, but you can buy sims 2 apartment life and they can live in apartments. sims 3 will hopefully make the same expansion packs.
I was hoping as well for more violence, diseases, injury. i know it sounds mean, but these things play a big part in real life, why shouldnt they in sims?
and i completely see the difference in the picture. im pretty sure they edited the woman in the red dress. =[
i have always wanted growing hair too. or if your hair is super short, you cant get a longer hairstyle.

lol! and so there are 2 and a half things on my wishlists which are in the game. the wind .. you can see it in the trees n stuff but it doesnt work with hair or clothes like in secondlife

I already have The Sims 3…SO exciting. Not really. I can’t find an animation tool or the custom content I want–NO WEATHER. but you CAN park the car anywhere on the lot. one time i parked it inside the house using the “moveobjects” on cheat…lol…not really lol, but u know what i mean. i’m trying to make a movie…it’s called “21 Guns”, and yes, the song is “21 Guns” by Green Day. I won’t spoil it, but it’s supposed to be really sad. SO MUCH FREAKING CUSTOM CONTENT…it crashed a thousand times but at least they came out with patches that I can use to support the custom content (old computers…ugh.) so i’ve created other (terrible) movies with the sims 3, but this one i’m really trying to make more professional and serious…anybody have ANY tips or advice or anything at all???? if so, please send me a message at my youtube channel (where all my crappy vids are): http://www.youtube.com/user/Novocaine01 … PLEASE HELP ME! if you have any animation tools, mesh tools, custom content (like rock band stuff, guitars, drums, microphones, speakers, etc.) or stuff like animating your sims to sing, drink beer, stumble, run away, kiss, hold hands and walk at the same time, dance, etc (there’s a wild concert scene in my movie…COPS DO COME)…help!

one more thing…i had to tweak so much stuff to get all the custom content i want into my game–when i did that the sims in the sims 3 looked more like the sims in the sims 2–cuz the sims in the sims 2 you could make so PRETTY!!!!!! but in the sims 3 they’re kinda ugly…(shudder shudder)…lol
